My name is Daniel Alexander Fong. I am a Plasmagician (in training), currently linked to Princeton University's Plasma Physics Laboratory. I live in the Princeton Graduate College, and have a highly awesome room.

I was, up until April 2005 a student of one Dalhousie University of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, the bigger brother of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where I actually lived. I basically grew up at Dalhousie, and I graduated with a B.Sc. with First Class Combined Honours in Computer Science and Physics. I earned a nifty university medal in Computer Science. I worked on exact wave-function methods for strongly correllated quantum systems, and specifically applied the results toward lateral quantum dots. I worked under Dr. Jordan Kyriakidis.

I like the hacker ethic, science, environmentalism, sustainable development, mathematics, subway sandwiches, fusion power, mountains, the ocean, Spivak Pronouns, the mighty one, lightsabres, donairs and baseball, Zen Buddhism, video games, pineapples, Libertarianism, obscure music, Halifax, the digeridoo, silliness and cygwin, technology, eccentricity, rollerblading and cycling, photography, power, kung-fu, running, and dancing. I'd bet P != NP.

I dislike ignorance, religion, really poorly misled environmentalists, ambitionless slugs, tuna bubbly bake, Pseudoscience, excessively wasteful/damaging behaviour, Stupids, erroneous thinking, racists, suits, wrongful dominion, panic-mongering, mtv, public school, bad journalists, Avril Lavigne, George W. Bush, and polka dancing

I am a strong atheist, and in fact am tolerant of, yet strongly disagree with, any form of religious conduct or set of intentionally irreducible or unjustifiable beliefs. I also think that governments would gain much by laughing at themselves every once in a while.

I am an avid user of many of the inventions of modern society, like paper, furniture, subway sandwiches, and the interweb. I attempt to engage in continuous self-improvement, or failing that, fun. I like humor, even when applied to my own clumsiness.

I was born on 30 October 1987. The hospital was hosting a halloween party, and hilariously, I was delivered by a nurse in a head to toe shark uniform. As you can see, I've never quite recovered from the experience. My parents have, since I'm finally moving away (complete with requisite epic month-long road trip). My Mother, Trudy is a Journalist/Novelist/Painter/Mother/Nag, while my Dad, Greg is a Restaurateur/Economist/Inventor/Programmer/Dilettante. I have two younger brothers, Gavin and Travis, who are currently in the process of being kids. Gavin is a very cool artist/musician/goth type individual, who would undoubtably rule the world right now (if he felt like it), Travis is apparently a clone of my younger self, with greater charm, wit, and ability to destroy his own computer.

I use Windows XP/Cygwin (much to my shame). I wear big ridiculous headphones, and I use an iPod Photo, while I refuse to be apple-raped by Steve Jobs! I intend to install a dual-boot once I'm settled at Princeton, honest! I used to play many video games, but my equipment has waned with my free time/patience/ability. I still never lose at risk. I'm still horrible at Chess and Go. I code in C++, the most superior of all languages, however I also am proficient in Java, Scheme, Fortran, perl, and at some point, Python. The wikipedia has trancended mere awesomeness into the rarefied realm of kick-assitude. I do my part, mostly updating entries involving physics, computer science, mathematics, and scattered historical articles. I also update pages on certain prominent mathematicians, in order to keep the facts straight.
