From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Darrington is a small village in West Yorkshire, England, three miles from Pontefract and twenty-five miles from the city of York. The village is split in two by the busy A1 trunk road which runs from London to Scotland. There are two public houses in the village, the "Spread Eagle" and the "Millers Arms", formerly the "Darrington Hotel". It now has a Premier Travel Inn, (originally a Premier Lodge) situated at the rear with a children's play area.
Holly Cottage Post Office in Darrington has closed, but a part-time post office was scheduled to open in the Reading Room. There have been many post office moves in the village. According to the Post Office Archives, the first post office in the village was opened in 1888; in 1889, it got its Rubber Stamp and was allowed to deal with money orders.
