Dashboard construct
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The defining concept of a dashboard is a set of indicators that relate to the observable environment. A further refinement of the concept, to its origin, is that that your view of the environment is 'above' the dashboard.
The general concept of the general dashboard construct should include the capabilities of extending the collapsing the dashboard and extending the dashboard. Collapsing the dashboard allows the user or system to only see indicators that are of concern or interest at the moment. Many implementations in software only consider the collapsing capability to hide indicators that are nominal. The analogy in the car dashboard is indicators that are the same color as the background, often black, so that they are not visible when they are not active.
Extension is the concept that indicators will be needed or created after the dashboard and the user/driver should have the ability to include them as needed. Widgets in Apple OSX and NASCAR race car dash frames are examples of extension.
