[edit] Biography
Davy was a co-founder of The Saw Doctors and has since been involved in a song-writing combo with Leo Moran, co-producing many of their popular works. Davy previously played guitar with Blaze X, a popular punk band in Tuam in the early 1980s, during which he authored many songs. When Blaze X broke up, Davy took a steady job at a local factory to support his wife and family. However he returned to the music scene when he joined Leo Moran in a new band.
[edit] Singing Style
Davy is a very versatile singer and can sing heavy lead vocals on rock songs such as "Thats What She Said Last Night", or softer vocals on ballads like "Share The Darkness" and harmonies occasionally, "Still The Only One" by Padraig Stevens being a fine example.
[edit] Guitar Style
Davy is rhythm guitarist with The Saw Doctors and it is Davy's great right hand rhythm that gives the Saw Doctors songs that lively, bouncy beat. A lot of Davy's guitar work sees him using the capo extensively and working with the open chords for example "To Win Just Once" a song in the key of A# is played with open chords and a capo on the 3rd fret, however his punk roots show up on songs like "What a Day" where he can be seen playing barre chords.
[edit] Equipment
Davy uses a number of acoustic guitars including a 12 string in his early days. He can be seen playing a Takamine acoustic on the "Different Kind of World" documentary. On stage however he usually uses electric guitars such as the Gretsch White Falcon, the Gibson ES-355, the Gibson S-G and the Gibson Les Paul. He tends not to use effects but on live performances occasionally uses distortion.
