[edit] License tagging for Image:Wiki2aaa.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Wiki2aaa.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Osama bin Laden
Thanks for experimenting with the page Osama bin Laden on Wikipedia. Your recent edit appears to have added obviously incorrect information and has been reverted or removed. [edit] Failed GA
I failed the GA nom for your article 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness. It needs MAJOR work before being re-submitted. Please read my comments on the article's talk page. (Ghostexorcist 22:06, 14 February 2007 (UTC))
[edit] No original research
Hi David, are you aware of the no original research policy? I can see much of your Indo/Aust article is referenced, but I suspect there is a bit of OR creeping in there too. regards Merbabu 05:35, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Third Opinion on pics
Hi David, a few issues with your flagging of a 'dispute' with me. Firstly, before you posted on that third opinion board, i had only removed the images once (reasoning now provided on article talk page). This was after another editor removed the first, and they somehow got reinstated (by yourself?). He has now removed them twice. I had though initially resized them from their previous oversized state. I have since removed them again but this was before i noticed your lodgement of a disagreement. The disagreement lodgement that names me is particularly poor form (in my opinion) for a couple of reasons: firstly, it's hardly a huge issue - I've removed a change once - this happens ALL the time on wikipedia. You need to get used to this like the rest of us. Secondly, you nominated WAY too early - you didn't provide long enough opportunity to reply to the talk page message, you didn't read the edit summary by the other removing editor, and if you are going to take it somewhere else (which is reasonably serious) you should at least notify the editor. And you already have a third opinion. Two editors have now removed it, while only yourself has put it back (which reminds me, please check WP:3RR. Escalating minor reversals so soon to third parties was way to premature. Give talk pages and messages a chance first. regards Merbabu 05:35, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Edit summaries and other...
David, it seems you may not know about how to use the edit summaries. Firstly, please provide one (in the box above the 'Save page' button). This will let people know of your intentions. Also, please read the edit summaries of other people - it seems you are missing things people are saying (just click on the 'history' tab next to the 'edit this page' tab and you'll see a list of all the previous versions and any edit summaries). Oh, on another issue, just be a little bit more careful not too break reference coding. A few edits like this one [1] you've seperated the code, (it's a small mistake but it can really up how the article appears [2]). cheers Merbabu 05:55, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
- You've reverted a number of improvements and fixes to errors that you had introduced with the reference coding. [3] Furthermore you have given no reasons for doing so in the edit summarries. Please familiarise yourself with basic obligations of wikipedia editors. thanks --Merbabu 11:32, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Citations
Please chose and fill in an appropriate citation template for each of your references. See: [4]. I'll try to format a few myself over the next few days. Any problems feel free to ask. Also, when citing large documents or web pages, please provide a specific page reference or section header - otherwise, it can be almost impossible to find the specific reference within many pages of information. Cheers Merbabu 03:39, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your wish list
Australian Regional Rivalries already exists - please look very closely before creating new articles - there are a number of ways of checking whether an area of interest already exists - some editors take the existence of parallel universes (ie similar articles created when there are already articles very close in title or sense) on wikipedia very seriously and as being sitting ducks for speedy deletions - no discussions and bang..SatuSuro 13:29, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] hello
thank you for your contributions on Islam and slavery and Muhammad's slaves. the problem with your insertions, which have resulted in their removal, is the fact that they constitute original research. by this, we mean that you have looked at the primary sources and have made assertions based upon how you interpret them. this is, as you may realise, something we cannot do, because everybody has their own interpretations and understandings of the same passages. this is why whatever we write must be referenced to secondary sources, such as academic books and papers discussing the issue. wikipedians aren't supposed to be theologians, historians, scientists or anything like that, we are simply supposed to regurgitate what academic, scholarly literature says on the topic. the intent of this comment is hopefully to leave you with a better understanding of how wikipedia works. you may wish to see WP:LOP to take a look at our main content policies. thanks. - I'm going to do an overhaul of the slavery one pretty soon. You can help me with it by finding sources which discuss the aspects of slavery in Islam which aren't currently being represented. Arrow740 02:47, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Sukarno's speeches
In line with the comments above about the slavery articles, I'm questioning your edits saying that Sukarno on anti-colonialism implied opposition to Australian prescence in New Guinea [5] Is this original research, or can you provide a reference for Sukarno intending to mean Australia? thanks Merbabu 23:31, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Muhammad's slaves
[edit] Muhammed's attitude to slavery
Slavery practise in Arabia predated Muhammed. He used his influence as a ruler of the muslim community to adapt and regulate it under the system of shariah. His established norms encompassed condemning the mistreatment for well-behaved slaves, admonishing masters to regard slaves as their brothers, and providing means for slaves to ascend to the status of 'clients' (mawali) either as expiation for the master's sins or pursuant to the terms of mukataba.[1][2]
Muhammed's conduct as a master of slaves incorporated concubinage with some of his female slaves and the management and ownership of a varying numbers of other slaves, some of which were given to him, some acquired through trades, and others acquired as a result of ghazwah (raids). It is also conceivable that he stood to inherit slaves from his first wife Khadijah.
In his practise of and statements concerning both slavery and concubinage, and his dealings with former slaves and the slaves of others (see Bilal), he observed the rule of respect and liberality. He is known to have adopted at least one slave (Zayd) that he befriended and freed.[3] As in the case of Marwan, however, that did not preclude that his slaves might be pressed more strenously than the majority of other slaves in a similar circumstance.
The social structure of islam, levy (reuben). Cambridge University Press 1969 Professor of Persian in the University of Cambridge Being the 2nd edition of the sociology of islam p.73 - 4' a class of human beings that has formed an integral part of Muslim society up to the present day is that of the slaves. Muhammed took over the slavery system, upon which ancient society was based, seemingly without question and regarding it as part of the natural order of the universe. His injuctions recommending humane treatment of slaves and making it a meritorious act to emancipate them indicate that he intended some amelioration of their condition, but neither from the Koran nor from the 'Traditions' is it possible to infer that the abolition of slavery was intended .. it is nevertheless a fact that as [Islam] grew older, the stigma attaching to the status of the slave gradually disappeared.
In certain circumstances some slaves had opportunities for acquiring wealth and opwer even great than those that were within the reach of free men.
- the mamluk sultans of Egypt
p.75 Before Muhammad's regime, slaves were by origin either prisoners taken in war or in raids into hostile territory, or else the offspring of slaves. It was still possible for Arabs to enslave their countrymen by capture in war or to recoup themselves for a debt.
..
By the Islamic legists the theory was evolved that all men were free except such as acknowledge themselves slaves or could be proved on good evidence to be slaves. Quite early in the history of the faith the principle was established that there was to be no taking of captives from amongst Muslims and no enslavement of Muslim Arabs, although the Quran does not say so Muhammed recognised restrictions on the master's right of concubinage with maidservant slaves. For example, muslims required permission from their spouse(s) to co-habit with slaves owned by such a spouse.[4] They could not exercise the right of concubinage over co-owned slaves without the agreement of the other owners. He otherwise recognised no limits on slave concubinage practise except those that generally applied to marriage and sexual relations such as not having intimate relations concurrently with two sisters.[4][5]
Muhammad categorised slaves mothering children by their masters as "Umm Walad" (lit. Mother of a child). Umm Walad could not be sold and took freedom upon the death of the master. Their children were free from birth by virtue of the father's free status.
Muhammed always affirmed the notion that the children of two slave parents are born into slavery.

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:GravelNPC.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:GravelNPC.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 03:19, 1 March 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fang Aili talk 03:19, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:GRAVELBUMP.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:GRAVELBUMP.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Mike Gravel presidential campaign, 2008
Has anyone told you how to use a sandbox at all? repeated edits on a single article in normal wikispace do create a few issues with some editors and others Also all edits - regardless of where or how you do them are there forever - well worth thinking about what you are doing.... cheers SatuSuro 14:06, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] No original research - a further reminder
David, re Australia-Indonesia relations you have continually inserted unsourced remarks about Indonesia failing to provide aid to AUstralia even though Australia provides aid to Indonesia. I'm not going to bother explaining why this is an absurb comparison - it's in my edit summaries and the article talk page anyway - except to say that it violates WP:OR, one of only 2 or 3 fundamental wikipedia policies. Specifically, have a look at this section. Your additional linking of aid to terrorism and security issues is also absurd and 100% original research and/or your own commentary. I'm sure you agree with your 'legal background', that this is not really very difficult stuff. Sorry for being blunt but it has come up a number of times. If you insist on the edits, i will need to refer your actions it to an administrator. Merbabu 07:23, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gravel articles
Please look at how other articles for 2008 presidential candidates are structured and named. I'm only trying to bring the Gravel articles in alignment with them. For example, see Political views of Hillary Rodham Clinton, Political views of Barack Obama, Political views of Rudy Giuliani, etc. Gravel is a legitimate if little-known candidate, and we need to treat him the same as others.
