Dayan Khan (given name: Batu Möngke; ?-1543?), was a Mongol Khan who reconstructed the Mongol Empire.
An orphan at age five, he was adopted by Mandukhai Khatun, the wife of Manduulun Khan who died in 1467. As a direct descendant of Khubilai, she had him ascend to the throne. When he was aged nineteen, she married him, and retained great influence over court and military. They reunified the Mongol retainers of the Yuan Dynasty. The Oiriats were defeated and control reclaimed over the eastern mongols.
His sons were made Tribal chiefs. Almost all princes in Mongolia were his descendants.
The Mongols were reorganized by tümen (lit. ten thousand) under him as follows.
Right Wing: Chakhar, Khalkha and Uriyangkhan
Left Wing: Ordus, Tümed and Yöngshiyebü
Others: Ongluud, Öjiyed, Asud and Kharachin
Dayan Khan and his successors led the Chakhar tümen.
Altan Khan was his grandson.
