Days of Purgatory is Iced Earth's fifth album and is a collection of remixes and remakes from previous albums.
All the songs from the Enter the Realm EP, Iced Earth and Night of the Stormrider were re-sung by Matthew Barlow, and on some of the songs the drums and bass redone. Import pressings of Days of Purgatory also includes songs from Burnt Offerings.
The reason for the album was to improve the original songs, create nostalgia for older fans and introduce newer fans to Iced Earth's older work.
A 2-cd limited edition was originally produced for European audiences but has since been released in the United States.
In the summer of 2007, Iced Earth will release the EP "Overture of the Wicked", which features re-recordings of the band's Something Wicked trilogy, similar to those on Days of Purgatory. The songs feature most of the band's October 2006-March 2007 lineup, led by Tim "Ripper" Owens.
