DB Schienenbus
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The DB rail vehicle classes Baureihe 795, Baureihe 796, Baureihe 797 and Baureihe 798 are series of two-axled lightweight railbuses in use at the Deutsche Bundesbahn and later at Deutsche Bahn AG from the 1950s to the early 2000s. They were commonly called Schienenbus (lit. railbus) in German. Most of these vehicles were built by Waggonfabrik Uerdingen, though a number of other manufacturers built their own variant. Counting all franchisees, a total number of 1492 units was produced between 1950 and 1971.
Deutsche Bahn has decommissioned the vehicles by now, but a number of private train operating companies and heritage railways continue to use them. Some of the decommissioned vehicles were sold to Luxembourg, Turkey and Cuba.
