De Soto is a city in Johnson County, Kansas, along the Kansas River. The population was 4,561 at the 2000 census. The area code is 913, and the two zip codes are 66018 and 66019.

De Soto is located at (38.965081, -94.962285)GR1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 29.3 km² (11.3 mi²), all land.
there are some pretty sweet places in De Soto, like this one house with a giant tree in the backyard with large bent branches, it is believed that the branches are bent because it was once used as a site of burial by the Native Americans who lived there. there is also an old hunting lodge deep in the woods where rich city folk spent their weekends back in the early twentieth century.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 4,561 people, 1,642 households, and 1,246 families residing in the city. The population density was 155.6/km² (403.0/mi²). There were 1,730 housing units at an average density of 59.0/km² (152.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.80% White, 0.20% African American, 0.94% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 1.69% from other races, and 1.93% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.86% of the population.
There were 1,642 households out of which 41.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.1% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.1% were non-families. 21.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.23.
In the city the population was spread out with 30.5% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 32.5% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 8.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 103.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.4 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $46,426, and the median income for a family was $52,219. Males had a median income of $36,203 versus $31,682 for females. The per capita income for the city was $23,141. About 3.2% of families and 5.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.1% of those under age 18 and 13.1% of those age 65 or over.
