Denkoroku
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Denkoroku, Record of the Transmission of the Light, by Keizan Jokin Zenji, gives brief koan-style accounts of the Zen transmission between successive patriarchs in the Soto Zen Buddhist lineage from Shakyamuni Buddha to Dogen Kigen Zenji, who brought Soto Zen teaching to Japan. Each account is accompanied by a commentary on the koan or the patriarch's life, and a verse summarizing the point made by the master and understood by the disciple.
