Denny Middle School is a middle school in West Seattle, the southwest portion of Seattle, Washington. Operated by Seattle Public Schools, Denny Middle School opened in 1952. It is named for David T. Denny, one of Seattle’s early settlers and an early member of the Seattle School Board.
One of Denny Middle School’s many assets is its cultural diversity. Exploratory classes include Spanish, Proyecto Saber ((Spanish for "Project: To Know"), Mandarin Chinese, mariachi band, steel drums and world music choir. Other musical opportunities include marching band, jazz band and orchestra. Partnerships with the Seattle Repertory Theatre and Paramount Theatre and a dynamic visual arts program provide multiple opportunities for students to develop their artistic talents.
Another asset is Denny Middle School’s location, near Chief Sealth High School and adjacent to a major athletic complex, featuring a 4000-seat outdoor stadium, and a community center and pool operated by the City of Seattle.
Denny and Chief Sealth faculty members collaborate to plan curriculum that will prepare all students to meet the academic challenges that Chief Sealth’s International Baccalaureate program will provide, starting in fall 2007.
