Alexander Derek Dougan (born Belfast, 20 January 1938) is a former professional footballer.
In his 18 years in the Football League, Derek scored a total of 222 goals in 546 matches, including 95 in 258 for Wolverhampton Wanderers, whom he served from 1967 until May 1976.
Known to the Molineux stadium faithful as simply the "Doog", he began his career in Northern Ireland with Distillery and in August 1957 he signed professional forms for Portsmouth FC.
He remained until March 1959 when he was transferred to Blackburn Rovers for £15,000. After two and a half years at Ewood Park he moved again. He then played for Aston Villa, Peterborough United and Leicester City before moving to Wolves in 1967.
In just over eight seasons at Molineux, Derek amassed in excess of 320 senior appearances for Wolves netting over 120 goals. He helped Wolves clinch promotion from the Second division in 1967 and then collected a League Cup winners prize in 1974. He netted a hat-trick in the UEFA Cup 1971-72 in Portugal vs Académica. He is the only Wolves player so far to have netted a hat-trick in a major European competition. Four days before that game Dougan had netted three goals when Wolves beat Nottingham Forest in a League match.
Derek won a total of 43 full caps for the Northern Ireland national football team and was a member of their 1958 FIFA World Cup team.
Towards the end of his playing career, he was chairman of the Professional Footballers Association.
He became Chairman and Chief Executive of Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1983. More recently he has been involved in raising money for various charities and has worked on several committees, quite a few relating to soccer. He is now living in Codsall, near Wolverhampton.
On the 14th June 2006, he appeared on the BBC political debate show "Question Time", as a representative of UKIP.
