Derek Haig is a fictional high-schooler on the t.v. series Degrassi: The Next Generation
Derek first appeared on Degrassi as a talented yet cocky, overconfident basketball player in season 5. He ridiculed Jimmy for being in a wheelchair, even going so far as starting a scuffle with him in the hallway. After being beaten by Jimmy while shooting hoops from a distance, he and Jimmy became "basketball buddies". He even went on a date with Emma (that didn't go too well). In season 6, he is rarely seen out of the company with Liberty's brother Danny Van Zandt. Together, they deal with their threatening history teacher Mr. Perino, temporarily blackmail Darcy Edwards, and get caught up in the rivalry between Degrassi and Lakehurst.
