Derek Twigg

John Derek Twigg (born 9 July 1959, Widnes) is a Labour Party politician in the United Kingdom. He is Member of Parliament for Halton in Cheshire, and was first elected at the 1997 general election.
Between 2002 and 2004 he served as a whip. On 16 December 2004, in the reshuffle following the resignation of David Blunkett, he was appointed junior education minister in the Department for Education and Skills
In the cabinet reshuffle following the general election in May 2005, Twigg was appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport. On 6 September 2006, after the resignation of Tom Watson, he was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State and Minister for Veterans at the Ministry of Defence [1]
