Dermot McMorrough Kavanagh

Colonel Sir Dermot McMorrough Kavanagh, GCVO, Crown Equerry (1890-1958) of the Royal Household of the Sovereign of the United Kingdom 1941-1955.
He was born in 1890 and educated at Eton College, and served in the 11th Hussars from 1909. McMorrough Kavanagh was Assistant Military Secretary in Eastern Command 1926-1930, and, on promotion to Lieutenant-Colonel, Commanding Officer of the 11th Hussars 1932-36. In 1939 he was promoted to Colonel, and served in France in 1940.
He was an Equerry 1937-1941, and then succeeded Colonel Sir Arthur Erskine, GCVO DSO in 1941. From 1957 until his death in the following year he was an Extra Equerry.
Sir Dermot was made a CVO in 1943, and was promoted to KCVO in 1946, and the GCVO in 1953. He succeeded as the Irish feudal chief The McMorrough Kavanagh
He died in 1958.
