He is a rejected children's TV host who works in a DIY store. He is often seen annoying the other members of staff with his puppet (called Croc O. Dile) and his frequent sayings of "Wicky Woo". He is thought to be a spoof of Timmy Mallett. According to the show, DIY Universe is located in the town of Little Tokyo.
He has a puppet crocodile, Croc O'Dile, who speaks with a stereotypical Irish accent (while Kaye's mouth visibly moves): "Top o' the mornin', where's me breakfast?", before attacking his "victim" in the manner of Rod Hull's Emu.
The Series 1 DVD contains a deleted scene showing Des visiting a children's hospital and accidentally unplugging a patient's life support machine while trying to play some cheerful music on a tape recorder.
Des Kaye makes another appearance in the Little Britain Live stage show when he plays a game called 'Hide the Sausage' where he gets two men out of the audience (One attractive, the other not so much) and consequently tries to 'find the sausage' on the attractive man's body and ends up trying to have anal sex with him.
