Desiree Washington (born 1973), a native of Coventry, Rhode Island, was an eighteen-year-old Miss Black America beauty pageant contestant representing her home state of Rhode Island when she accused boxer Mike Tyson of raping her in an Indianapolis hotel room on July 19, 1991.
Tyson was ultimately convicted of the crime and served 3 years of a 6-year sentence. Tyson maintains his innocence.
According to an official police affidavit Washington accused one of her high school classmates, Wayne Walker, of raping her in October 1989.[citation needed] It is not clear whether this allegation was ever clearly proved or disproved.
