I believe the original image to be a contemporary painting, which is therefore in the public domain.
This image was found on the Journal of the Society of Dix-Neuviémistes (http://www.sdn.ac.uk/dixneuf/). I cropped most of the original (he is mounted on a horse) as I wanted to focus on his hat. Since it is only a small portion of the image from the above site, I believe it to be fair use. fabiform | talk 16:03, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)
