Talk:Digital native
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I tagged this article with the cleanup and inappropriate tone tags. My initial impulse was to nominate it for deletion, but a Google search yielded plenty of attestations of the phrase "digital native", so there may be a chance to make this into something encyclopedic. My specific problems include:
- This article lacks a lead paragraph per WP:MOS.
- Even though the phrase is attested, is it really notable enough for an encyclopedia article, or is this really just another marketing slogan that Apple picked up on?
- Gee-whiz marketing cybertopianism — the Internet will transform society, it will result in a new breed of people, a new Pepsi Generation — is so last century.
- Is this really about "education," or is it really a bit of marketing jargon?

[edit] Response to concerns about digital natives being only a marketing term
In response to the concern that "digital natives" is but a marketing term, I offer the following:
On January 11, 2007, The Idaho Commission of Libraries issued a public RFP (Request for Proposal) inquiring experienced market research firms to provide a State survey of "Digital Natives". This work will form an important basis for strategic decisions on how the Idaho Commission of Libraries will move forward in providing library services to the current and future citizens of Idaho. This study was commissioned based on previous research work done by the Idaho Commission of Libraries in 2006. see http://www.lili.org/futures for more information. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.160.77.3 (talk) 18:33, 20 February 2007 (UTC).
