Disparity
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Disparity may refer to:
[edit] Stereo Vision
- Disparity is a component of the process of Stereopsis. It is the difference in images from the left and right eye that the brain uses as a binocular cue to determine depth or distance of an object.
- Disparity is also a component of the process of computer stereo vision. Two cameras take pictures of the same scene, but they are separated by a distance - exactly like our eyes. A computer compares the images to find the parts that match. It does this multiple times while shifting the two images together over top of each other. This shifted amount is called the disparity. The computer can calculate distance to objects in the image from the disparity amount at which they best match.
[edit] Economics
- Disparity refers to the regional and economic differences in a country, province, state, or continent.
[edit] Evolutionary biology
- In evolutionary biology, the disparity of a biota or other group refers to:
- the number of higher taxa represented
- the variety of form ("morphology") represented.
