Divide and Conquer (Transformers episode)

Divide and Conquer is the sixth episode of The Transformers. Divide and Conquer first aired on October 20, 1984 on syndication.

[edit] Synopsis

The Decepticon jets badly damage Optimus Prime in an attack on a power plant. A group of Autobots must go to Wheeljack's lab on Cybertron to obtain a part needed to repair Optimus. The Decepticons attack while the Autobots are thus weakened, but Prime is repaired at the last minute and answers Megatron's challenge for a one-on-one combat. The Decepticons are defeated and retreat.

Although the obvious reason is that they simply hadn't thought of the idea yet, there clearly is no Matrix of Leadership in any of the numerous shots of Prime's open chest. In this episode is the first reference to Treansformers having sparks, referred to as Laser Cores when Megatron said, "Did you make sure his laser core was extinguished?" to Starscream. Three unnamed Seekers (Decepticon jets) on Cybertron cause the acid rain and attack the Autobots there. Years after this episode a fan made figures of these three, naming the yellow one Sunstorm. Sunstorm would eventually appear in several issues of Dreamwave's Transformers: Generation One comic book. This is also the first episode where Windcharger actually speaks. The line is "Our leader's back."
