[edit] I am on real vacation this week. I may edit a little. I may not. Whatever I was doing before, I will finish after I get back on March 16, 2007.

I have hit Wikibottom. If you don't believe me, check out my edit count. I have taken on too much, and my real life is suffering. For the time being, I will only be doing the following tasks:
- Maintaining Portal:Baseball
- Participating in AfDs and merges I've already proposed.
- Monitoring my watchlist articles.
- Participating in discussions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Baseball
- Finishing what I started at Major League Baseball Draft
I'll still be checking my talk page daily, so feel free to leave me a message, but know that, for the time being, I'm unlikely to assist in any tasks not listed above. I'll be back to moderate strength once I decompress.
[edit] What I'm working on
I'm doing a total rewrite of Major League Baseball Draft (which, if my proposed move goes through, will be called First-Year Player Draft in a matter of days). I'm finding that there's amazingly little information available on the draft, especially considering the ubiquity of its counterparts in other sports.
[edit] Baseball Article Assessment
I'm also assessing Hall of Fame bios and some other random baseball articles. Since there's such a huge backlog of unassessed articles, I'm trying to do this thoroughly but quickly. That, combined with the subjectivity of the scale, means I'm certain I'm making some mistakes. If you want to know why I rated an article a certain way, please leave me a message on my talk page, and I'll get back to you.
Also, here are a couple points that might answer your questions:
- I give credit for having a well-written introduction that tells not just dates, teams, and positions, but gives a fuller view of what the subject accomplished in his career, and why he is notable.
- If a paragraph is just a list of stats, I view it as a stat chart. If it's only a list of honors, I view it as something better put in an infobox. A good bio should be a narrative of a player's career, not just a list of highlights.
- I will never rate an article without any references higher than a start, no matter how well-composed it might be.
- To an extent, I'm making up my scale of importance as I go along. Here's a rough sketch, though:
- Hall of Fame players are high, with a few tops thrown in for particularly transcendent players.
- Other inductees (pioneers, managers, execs) are highs or mids. Some could go either way. I'm making a subjective judgment.
- Non-HOFers with Cy Young's, MVPs, multiple All-Star appearances are mids with a few highs thrown in. There are a few one-time All-Stars, such as John Hudek, who I still think are lows.
- Some players, such as Curt Flood or Ralph Branca, who are famous for a particular event, may be ranked higher than the sum of their careers would indicate.
Lastly, I am not the expert on anything. If I keep going at my current pace, pretty soon the majority of rankings will be mine, but that's mostly a function of no one else doing it regularly. So if you think I'm wrong, change it. I'm not even watching 95% of the pages I rank, so I doubt I'll notice, and even if I do, I don't see myself getting into any revert wars over assessments. I'm trying to help the baseball project get organized, not to impart my standards on Wikipedia.
