[edit] Permission needed to use image/ Release form

74.128.175.20 12:39, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Dogears,

I need an electronic signature for the form below to use the Puffer with shark's mouth in a history of the boat. See form and exchange of info with wikipedia staff below. I looked for this image for 4 years, where did you find it? What is your connection to the Puffer? My father served in the boat for war patrols 2 thru the end of the war.

My thanks in advance.

Keep their Silent Service memories alive,

Craig

Dear Craig Richard Mc Donald,

Thank you for your mail.

Hello:

I have written a history of the submarine Puffer SS-268, of which there
is an excellent photo on Wikipedia (as it was painted after the war).
The publisher wants a signed release form indicating if the photo is
used no financial remuneration will be forthcoming from the author or
publisher. How can I satisfy this requirement?

The "USS Puffer (SS-268)" article seems to have 2 photos at the moment. One of them (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:USS_Puffer%3B0826801.jpg) is a work of US Navy, therefore in the public domain.

Second picture (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:USS_Puffer_%28SS-268%29.jpg), however, is a work of Dogears, one of our users. although he/she clearly states that he/she is releasing the image to the public domain, it would be a good idea to contact the user personally and resolve the issue.

You could contact the user via the talk page:

Or you could try to e-mail using the Wiki interface (you need to have an account for that):

I congratulate you on your book and wish you all the best.

Yours sincerely, Bilal Özdemir

[edit] Law

Hey, did you see Law got FA status this week? It's a good example of what an overview article such as architecture might look like - I'm busy right now on a rewrite of the Taj Mahal, but architecture is next on the list. --Mcginnly | Natter 17:26, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Barns

Thanks for the read, short but sweet, had a couple things that differed here and there. The whole business of classifying and studied barns, especially for their significance in cultural geography is a relatively new phenomenon. A mcmurray 05:06, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

I presume you know about the round barn at the Shaker Village in Hancock, Massachusetts.A mcmurray 05:18, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
That's cool. So even if people hated the Shakers then now they can hug them and love them and go visit their barn and pay them dollars for handicrafts and poof! no more hatred. Except for the pimply faced Shaker kid working the register at the handicrafts shop, he wants to hurt people. But that's neither here nor there ; ).A mcmurray 05:34, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your fixes on Joseph F. Glidden House btw. I was thinking it has a good chance at GA.A mcmurray 05:36, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mateus Fernandes

This is a request to assess this biography I just wrote, after doing a research for a long time. I've tried in this article to assemble almost everything known about this important Portuguese architect, who almost invented the Manueline style single-handedly. I would also appreciate if you would check my choice of words or my style, as I'm not a native speaker. JoJan 15:44, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your contributions and assessment. They increased the readability of the article. I wouldn't be surprised if this article is the most comprehensive biography available at this moment, as almost nothing is known about this important architect (or should I say 'master of works' ?). As far as I know there are no books or websites dedicated uniquely to this man. I'm afraid your rating "start" won't be upgraded soon to B or A, unless one adds a lot of discussions about his artistic works. But such discussions would hardly be objective, thus violating NPOV. [edit] New NRHP Collaboration Division

Hey, saw you were a participant in the National Register of Historic Places WikiProject. I thought I would let you know that there is a new Collaboration Division up for the project. The goal of the division is to select an article or articles for improvement to Good article standard or higher. There is a simple nomination process, which you can check out on the division subpage, to make sure each candidate for collaboration has enough interested editors. This is a good way to get a lot of articles to a quality status quickly. Please consider participating. More details can be seen at the division subpage. IvoShandor 11:04, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NRHP - Frank Lloyd Wright

In the next couple weeks I am planning to expand the Wiki's coverage of Frank Lloyd Wright building's, especially with the concentration in Oak Park, Illinois. I would be willing to help expand Auldbrass Plantation as part of that personal project. If you are interested in helping inquire on my talk page. There are 100s of buildings by Frank Lloyd Wright and affiliated architects in the Chicagoland area, so this would be an amazing chance to really up the ante, so to speak, concerning Wikipedia and Frank Lloyd Wright. IvoShandor 16:28, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

There's a bunch of Wright-designed buildings at Florida Southern College. Count me in. :) --Ebyabe 17:14, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Sounds like a great project/collaboration that can get a lot of people interested. The Library of Congress - American Memory database has hundreds of images and detailed data pages together on one page specifically for FLW. See the following links:

Awesome links. I think this will be pretty awesome. My first tasks are as follows, which anyone can help with.
  • Stubs - the Frank Lloyd Wright related historic districts in Oak Park are yet to be stubbed: Frank Lloyd Wright-Prairie School of Architecture Historic District, Ridgeland-Oak Park Historic District. The third one is Prairie School related but I don't believe it has any actual Wright buildings, Gunderson Historic District.
  • Stubs - Individual buildings within the districts. Several are individually listed, and need articles. Most are not listed alone and are contributing properties to historic districts.
  • Photos: All of the articles that are stubbed as part of this district I can supply original photos for in the next couple weeks, those combined with whatever we pull from HABS (any design drawings would be really cool for a Commons gallery, as well as the historic photos) can be uploaded to Commons for galleries.
  • Photos: Speaking of Commons, we should go ahead and try to organize the FLW cats on Commons by buildings, at least if they aren't already, I looked at briefly, seems like they could use some cleanup.
  • Expansion: The stubs are just the first part, the articles can be expanded through various sources, HABS usually has some documentation. For sites in Illinois the HAARGIS database is awesome (lucky us since so many Wright buildings are in Illinois.

Anyone who has similar task lists should post them, is there enough interest to merit a division either in NRHP or Archtecture projects?

IvoShandor 18:38, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Went live with this division. Feel free to add to or take away wherever. IvoShandor 08:08, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
I'd like to be excused from having anything to do with the Kitchy later period stuff although I'm happy to expand Taliesin West. --Mcginnly | Natter 10:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New architecture article bot

Hi - thanks for the kind words. I'm quite happy to have the feed from the bottom going anywhere, so long as it is visible enough that interested editors can find it. The original output is at User:AlexNewArtBot/ArchitectureSearchResult, so that can be transcluded anywhere people want it to go. The bot searches for articles daily, so redlinks and redirects were articles at the time. There's no way to prevent them being listed, but there's no harm in removing them from the list. If you have any other suggestions for rules, please put them forward - or add them yourself, should you wish to. Warofdreams talk 01:36, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

I've added the bot list as a transclusion to the new article announcement - Ultimately, with some refinement, in theory (I've got caveatitis today and the ointment doesn't seem to be working) people won't need to manually add to the list so it makes sense to pop it in at the top and let people for now add what they want beneath. It doesn't seem to be showing up in the bulletin though, any ideas? regards --Mcginnly | Natter 22:11, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

ping! you have mail. --Mcginnly | Natter 12:36, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
