'Don Patch (also known as Poppa Rocks and Patches) is a pun on "donpachi", the Japanese sound of machine gun fire, and the name of a Japanese confectionery similar to Pop Rocks, which is why he is named "Poppa Rocks" in the English translation of the manga.[citation needed] In the English translation of the anime, he is called Don Patch. He is an orange, round creature.
He was the original leader (or "don") of the "Wiggin Tribe" ("Hajikegumi" in Japan), a group of rebels who oppose Emperor Baldy. Don Patch has henchmen named Lil' Rocks (in the English manga), or Ko Patch. He quits the Wiggin Gang because he felt that they never give him space, but the real reason was so he can wig out more with Bobobo.
Don Patch has a rather strange obsession with wigging out, which is his special skill. He can fuse with Bobobo to become several fusion forms including "Bo-BoPatch", "Bo-BoPatchnosuke" (Bobopatchiggler), "Patch-BoBo", and others. Don Patch is typically selfish and conceited, and enjoys hogging the spotlight whenever possible but during the fight against Halon Oni he discovers this from Hanpen. Also, in the first few episodes he had a slightly heroic voice but then his voice became whiny and childish. He might even fight Beauty, just to hog the spotlight. He frequently acts like a girl (usually by the name of "Patches" in the English dub). Don Patch will sometimes use a Green onion as a weapon, called the "Don Patch Sword" or the "Don Patch Hammer".
In some episodes Don Patch or other characters will mention that he hasn't taken a certain medication of his, while he is wigging out, which indicates that he might be somewhat mentally ill but this hasn't been truly proven yet. In one episode of the anime he admits that he sometimes forgets to take his medicine, but says in his defence: "That's just what makes me so cool!"
