Howe retired from playing and became Arsenal's reserve team coach under Bertie Mee, then stepping up to first team coach after the departure of Dave Sexton in 1968.

This date is inaccurate, since Dave Sexton was manager of Chelsea from October 1967 onwards. I know Sexton was a coach at Arsenal, but I'm unsure when he left, so I've left it unchanged. SteveO 20:41, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
