Doris Soffel

Doris Soffel (Born in Hechingen, Germany on 12 May 1948) is a German mezzo-soprano.
As a young girl, Doris Soffel played the violin but switched to singing in 1969. At first she seemed destined to play coloratura roles, singing in works by Rossini, Donizetti and Bellini. In 1994 she surprised everyone by taking the role of Judith in Bartok's "Duke Bluebeard's Castle". Since 1999 she has been acclaimed for her dramatic interpretation of Wagnerian roles, as well as sensitive singing in Mahler's vocal works.
