[edit] Location
It is located on Main Street, and runs between 2nd and 5th Streets. It is laid entirely with brick and home to an array of restaurants, shops, offices and art galleries. On Fridays in the summer and fall, the Downtown Mall is host to Friday's After 5, a weekly concert series. The east end of the mall is host to a newly built concert venue, while the west end of the mall holds the Omni Hotel and the ice skating rink. It is also home to the Paramount Theater, Sal's and Chaps Ice Cream.
[edit] People
The Downtown Mall is composed of about 50% rich yuppies who moved to Charlottesville from Northern Virginia, and 50% pot-heads/goths/punks/various other teenagers. Recently, one Officer Woods has made it his mission to get rid of the pot-heads, something he hopes to accomplish by obsessively ticketing/banning teenagers for "crimes" such as swearing and smoking tobacco.
[edit] History
In 1976, East Main Street was converted into a pedestrian mall, which is now is the largest revenue source for the city of Charlottesville.
