I was introduced to UNIX while studing music in college. Finding that I liked using the command line more than the “point and click” mentality of Windows 3.1, I found himself spending more time helping out in the universities computer lab on the lab’s AIX system than I did working on my homework.
After college, it seemed that no matter where I worked, I became the computer guy. Instead of making pizzas, I was charged with developing a computer based ordering system / customer database. When I should have been taking inventory in a stock room, I was installing an inventory control system. I finally gave up the fight when asked to maintain a collections database instead of collecting the debts.
Over the course of my career, I have administered AIX, SCO, Solaris, multiple flavors of Linux, and many versions of VMware. I have also has spent a lot of time doing test / development work for companies like IBM and AIG.
I am also the current author of the Linux System Administrator’s Guide hosted by the Linux Documentation Project. You can find the latest version at either http://www.tldp.org/ or http://www.draxeman.com/.
Computers are not my only interest though. I am married to a wonderful woman who has given me 3 amazing boys.
I has been playing guitar since the age of 13. Currently I am in the process of recording my first solo album. More about this will be posted as it develops.
I also am a former homebrewer and beer snob. The reason I say former is because at the end of 2005 I found out I have celiac disease, which is an allergy to Gluten, a protien found in many grains including barley. One of my goals is to develop a gluten free beer, but between work, wife, and 3 boys I never seem to find the time.
