Talk:Dubbing
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This at present is mostly a mess, with some IMO unnecessary and partly redundant articles, and some basic information still missing. Some thoughts:
- Dubbing (filmmaking) seems the best article at present, but despite the title it confines itself to only dialogue dubbing, neglecting other film uses of dubbing such as music, sound effects, etc. I suggest it be moved to a different title, perhaps "Dubbing (film dialogue)". Alternatively, other uses of dubbing in filmmaking should also be discussed in the article.
- Dubbing (music), Dubbing (transferring), and Overdubbing all seem to me to be incomplete attempts to deal with the same thing. I suggest combining them into one article, perhaps "Dubbing (audio)" or "Dubbing (audio recordings)". Other thoughts? -- Infrogmation 18:00, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- There is another article (stub) that seems to be in the same arena: Re-recording (sound/film). --Blainster 23:05, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "Usually audio"?
The article lead says "Dubbing is a process of adding, duplicating, or replacing recorded material (usually audio)." What is the non audio use of the term in this context? Examples? -- Infrogmation 18:00, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] History
Certainly we need to explain the origin and history of the term in audio technology, back to Edison labs. -- Infrogmation 18:00, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Also, IIRC older versions of "Dubbing (filmmaking)" (before it was moved there from simply "dubbing") contained some info on dubbing in television and audio that seems to have been removed without being put elsewhere. -- Infrogmation 18:07, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
