Duck sauce
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Duck sauce "鸭子调味汁" is an orange hued Chinese condiment, also widely known as Plum sauce. Duck sauce is used in Chinese cuisine as a dip for deep-fried dishes, such as spring rolls, egg rolls, noodles, and deep-fried chicken balls. It is made from sweet plums or other fruit such as peach or apricot, sugar, vinegar, ginger, and Chili pepper.
[edit] Origins of the name
The name "duck sauce" comes from the fact that Western Chinese restaurants began serving it with the pancakes that go with Peking Duck, under the mistaken impression that this was an authentic practice. In China, Peking Duck is traditionally served with sweet noodle sauce.
