Dushu

Dushu, a Chinese magazine first published in April 1979. The name means Readings, and its first leading article was entitled No Forbidden Zone in Reading.
The first editor was Chen Yuan, a famous social linguist. A year later, Fan Yong took over. Circulation rose from 50,000 to 80,000 in five or six years. In 1996, Wang Hui became editor. The journal has tended to raise issues not previously discussed and carries a wide range of political opinions, including the views of Chinese liberals and the Chinese New Left.
