Dusty and Lucy

Dusty Donovan and Lucy Montgomery were a popular couple on the American soap opera As the World Turns. Dusty is played by Grayson McCouch. Lucy has been played by Peyton List (2001-2005) and Spencer Grammer (May 2006-December 2006). The couple has been given the nickname "Lusty" (a portmanteau of Lucy and Dusty) by their fans.

When wealthy 18-year-old Lucy Montgomery found herself a victim of an apparent kidnapping plot, she was rescued by con man Dusty Donovan. Although Lucy believed that Dusty was kidnapper, he was able to convince her that saved her--the limo driver who was sent to take her to the airport was going to kidnap her. Although a frightened Lucy wanted to go back home, Dusty was convinced that she was in danger and the pair hid out in a warehouse for weeks so he could find out who exactly was trying to get her and why. Although Lucy was initially antagonistic toward Dusty, they soon grew close. Meanwhile, through his investigation, Dusty was able to rule out mob involvement and found out the name of her would-be kidnapper--Don Creel, who was simply a hired gun. Not long after he made this discovery, Agent Nikki Munson located the pair. Although Nikki wanted to arrest Dusty, by this time he'd earned Lucy's trust and she convinced the agent to listen to Dusty's theory. Mere days later, Creel was dead and Lucy went home, although she still had no idea who was ultimately behind the kidnapping.
Back in Oakdale, Lucy expressed her newfound feelings for Dusty. Earlier that year, she also had a crush on the older Paul Ryan. But unlike Paul, Dusty seemed to return her feelings. Although he tried to discourage her since he was almost twice her age, it was obvious that Dusty had feelings for her also.
Dusty continued to look into Lucy's kidnapping and some investigating led him to a man named Wade. Dusty went to Reno to find Wade and Lucy, against Dusty's wishes, followed without telling her mother. Lucy arrived in Reno to find Dusty and Wade fighting. Startled by Lucy's presence, Wade got the upper hand in the scuff and left Dusty hurt. Lucy tended to Dusty and the two talked about their relationship. Lucy wanted to be together, but Dusty was hesitant. When Sierra found out where Lucy was, Dusty promised the worried mother he would send Lucy back to Oakdale. Lucy left and Dusty found evidence that Lucy's father, Craig, was behind the kidnapping. Dusty returned to Oakdale.
After Reno, Dusty couldn't deny his feelings any longer and he and Lucy began a relationship. When Lucy was kidnapped, for real this time, she was buried alive. Fortunately, Dusty saved her in the nick of time. Dusty told Lucy the truth about the kidnapping and the teen confronted her father. Furious, she cut Craig from her life but refused to tell anyone the truth due to her immense loyalty to her father. Dusty wanted to go to the police, but abided by Lucy's wishes.
Later, Dusty was approached by an old friend named Dominic who wanted Dusty to find him a boxer to compete against the young fighter he was managing. Suspecting that things weren't on the up-and-up, Dusty declined but allowed himself to be talked into it since he wanted to be able to provide for Lucy without relying on her trust fund. Although he wanted to keep this new venture from Lucy, she soon discovered the truth and asked to be involved. Lucy had tried to help by finding a fighter, but Dusty informed her that the trick was to find a fighter who was good, but not too good, so Dom's guy could have a good chance of winning. After looking for weeks, Dusty found the perfect person--his friend and Lucy's ex-boyfriend Aaron Snyder! Despite some objections from Lucy, who was concerned about her friend, Aaron accepted the offer. Meanwhile, Dom found a fighter--Rafael "Rafi" Ortega--an old childhood friend of Lucy's from Montega.
A few days before the fight, Dusty was told that Aaron was to take a dive in the third round. Realizing everyone would be in danger if things didn't go Dom's way, Dusty tried to persuade both Aaron and Rafi to comply, but both wanted this to be a fair fight. Then the day of the fight, Rafi learned that his gloves were weighted, but was forced to continue the fight when Dom threatened to hurt Lucy. In the end, Aaron was rushed to the hospital with a brain injury from the weighted gloves and both Dusty and Dom were arrested for the illegal fight. Lucy, angry, left Dusty but later relented when he made a deal with the cops--he'd rat out Dom for immunity for himself and Rafi (since Rafi had been coerced into using the gloves). However, Dusty knew that Dom wouldn't let his arrest go unpunished and was convinced that they were all in danger. He appeared to be correct when Craig went missing.
Despite her mother's assurances that Craig was probably fine, Lucy was worried and asked Rafi's help in having her locate her dad. After lying to her mother that she was going on a ski trip, Lucy and Rafi set out to locate Craig. Unfortunately, Dusty was right again about the danger and the Lucy and Rafi found themselves under attack by Dominic's men. Soon the pair found themselves stranded after the plane they were on crashed. Deathly afraid, Lucy turned to her friend for comfort and the pair made love. Luckily, Lucy and Rafi were rescued by Dusty and returned to Oakdale, where Dusty professed his love for Lucy. However, now Lucy had a problem. Although she was in love with Dusty, she couldn't just toss aside the feelings she had for Rafi.
Not wanting to hurt either man, Lucy confided in her father who, trying to curb his controlling tendencies, simply suggested that she do what was right for her. In the course of the conversation, Lucy realized that what she really wanted to do was attand college and make a life for herself. So, with a heavy heart, Lucy said goodbye to her family, and a heartbroken Dusty, who was prepared to propose, and went off to attend Williams College in Massachusetts.
After Lucy left, Dusty eventually moved on to a relationship with Meg Snyder. That relationship failed due to Meg's desperation to keep Dusty and Dusty's growing feelings for Jennifer Munson. Meg lied about the paternity of Jennifer Munson's baby, Johnny Muson (whose father was Dusty's archrival, Craig). Dusty was close with both Jennifer and Johnny, who he delivered when Jen went into labor, so when the truth came out, he left Meg and began a relationship with Jennifer.
Months later, Lucy, having undergone an accelerated medical program, returned to Oakdale to work at Memorial Hospital. By this point, her father was in prison and Dusty, engaged to Jennifer, had adopted Johnny, Lucy's half-brother (Craig was in prison). Not long after Lucy arrived in Oakdale, Jennifer became ill and was rushed to Memorial with pneumonia. However, since she had been separated from her son for so long (thanks a baby switch courtesy of Craig), Jen was desperate to leave the hospital. Since Chief of Staff, Bob Hughes, was called away on an emergency drill, he put Lucy in charge and told her to contact him if she needed help. With Bob indisposed, Lucy was on call when Jennifer demanded to be released. Lucy tried to convince Jen that she needed to stay overnight but she was adamant. So after Jennifer signed a waiver stating she left against doctor's orders, she left. Tragically, that would prove to be a fatal mistake.
That night, Jennifer's heart gave out and she was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, by that point the damage was irreperable; within the day Jen was dead. In addition to her own guilt, Lucy had to deal with Dr. Hughes's' disapproval since he felt she exercised poor judgment for not calling him before releasing Jennifer, as well as Dusty's anger about losing his wife (the two married just before Jen's death).
Meanwhile, Lucy’s cousin, Luke, was dealing with his own problems—his estrangement from his adoptive father, Holden. Lucy tried to smooth the waters and convince Luke to return home but Luke, with encouragement from his biological father, Damian, was convinced Holden hated him for causing Lily’s fall. In the process of looking after her comatose Aunt Lily and befriending Luke, Lucy bonded with the older, suave Damian. However, when Luke discovered that Damian was terminally ill and made plans to move to Malta with him, Holden became convinced that Damian was lying and asked Lucy to do some investigating. After staging an argument with Lucinda right in front of Damian, Lucy accepted his offer to move in to Fairwinds with him and Luke.
At this point, Dusty, whose anger was becoming to soften, became privy to what was going on and warned Lucy that she was going into a dangerous situation but Lucy refused to listen. After almost getting caught looking through Damian’s desk to get a peek at his medical records, Lucy decided to break into Memorial’s record room to get a look at his old records. Unfortunately, Damian’s file was gone. Though Dusty warned her that someone was following her and she was in danger, Lucy was determined to help her family. Lucy then stepped up her plan to rummage through Fairwinds by drugging Damian. Unfortunately, he caught on to her and switched the tea cups—thereby drugging her! He then had her locked in the wine cellar while he and Luke left for the airport to go to Malta. At the same time, Dusty arrived at Fairwinds to find Lucy and wound up imprisoned himself. Luckily, the pair escaped and Lucy rushed to the airport to stop Luke. However, when she arrived, the police were already there and Damian was confessing that he was taking Luke away to get his inheritance. Though she could have brought up kidnapping charges, Lucy left that decision up to Luke, who decided it would be better to just let Damian slink back to Malta.
After the Damian fiasco, Dusty and Lucy slowly worked their way back together, much to the chagrin of Barbara Ryan, Jennifer's mother. Meanwhile, Craig was released from prison and was determined to get his son back. Dusty refused to give Johnny up and Lucy agreed that Jennifer's son would be better off with Dusty. She planned to testify against her father for the kidnapping, but when Craig hired someone to cut Dusty's brakes, Lucy feared that if she sent her father to prison, he would kill Dusty. So Lucy recanted her testimony and Dusty was furious. Lucy explained her actions, but Dusty was determined to keep Craig out of Johnny's life. When Craig found out Dusty planned to shoot him, he had Emily Stewart switch the bullets for blanks. Paul Ryan, also an enemy of Craig's, intercepted and switched the bullets back in the gun. Lucy tried to stop Dusty and when he confronted Craig with the gun, Craig, thinking there were blanks in the gun, dared Dusty to shoot him. At the last second, Lucy bumped Dusty's arm sending a bullet into Craig's shoulder. He was rushed to the hopital and Dusty was arrested.
While Dusty was in jail, Craig paid off judges to gain custody of Johnny overnight. When Craig had to have a check up for his bullet wound, Lucy promised to look after her brother. After Craig left, Lucy gathered Johnny's things and money from her father's safe. When Lucinda arrived and saw what was going on she became concerned for her granddaughter. Lucy explained that she didn't want Johnny to grow up in a war between Dusty and Craig. Sierra had a chartered a plane to take Lucy and Johnny into hiding. Lucinda let Lucy go, realizing she couldn't change her mind. When Dusty realized Lucy had taken his son, he felt betrayed and vowed never to forgive her. But ofcourse, he is going to forgive her because that's wat happens in a horrible soap like ATWT. Wiehoe.
