Der Hang Seng Index ist der führende Aktienindex in Hong Kong. Er besteht aus 33 Unternehmen, welche ca. 70% der gesamten Marktkapitalisierung der Aktienbörse Hong Kongs repräsentieren.
Der Index (Börsenkürzel HSI) startete am 31. Juli 1964 mit einem Stand von 100. Ende 2005 notierte der Hang Seng bei 14.876,43 Indexpunkten.
Der HSI wird herausgegeben von dem Unternehmen HSI Services Limited, deren Alleineigentümer die Hang Seng Bank ist. Diese Bank wird als zweitgrößte Bank in Hongkong im Bereich Marktkapitalisierung gelistet.
Die HSI Services Limited bringt daneben andere Indizes heraus, wie beispielsweise den Hang Seng Composite Index oder den Hang Seng HK MidCap Index.
