[edit] EC Central
East Chicago Central was established in 1986. Students from rival high schools, EC Rooselvelt and EC Washington, closed their doors and combined to make East Chicago Central. When the school first opened there were about 2000 students attending the school. Many teachers from the old EC high schools also taught at the high school. Many students that attend the school are of Hispanic and African American decent. This school is stereotyped in many ways, one being because of the gang violence situated in East Chicago and the old looking buildings that still stand from the 1930s. Many other high school students from other high schools from around the Northwest Indiana area are intimidated by the school, saying its to rough, dirty, poor, ghetto, and violent and unsafe.
[edit] History of EC
ECC came about when the town was decreasing in population. There were less students in both high schools in the 1980s and a lot more space. The buildings where EC Washington and EC Rooselvelt were at were starting to come apart and were too old. So the city decided to close there doors and make one new high school for the city. So the Central High came about in the school year of 86-87.
[edit] School District
The new Freshmen that come in every year either come from Westside Jr. High School and J.L. Block Jr. High School.
[edit] School Colors
Since 1996 all schools in East Chicago started to wear uniforms. The uniforms were based on Central's school colors, which are red, white, and blue. Till this day, many students and staff members still do not know if the school colors are red, white, and blue, or red, silver, and blue.
