East Hills Middle School is a public school in in the Northeastern part of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in the Bethlehem Area School District.[1]

[edit] Reading and writing portfolio program=
90 per cent of students meet or exceed the 25 book reading standard, which is when students have too read 25 books every school year, up too there reading level, and write in a standard packet, different things about the book.

In all three grades, specialized programs exist to help the lower-achieving students, using a standards-based approach to Language Arts and Mathematics, as well as extended student work-units which are based on realistic life scenarios.
[edit] Monagacci Program
A Wilderness education immersion program in the seventh grade. Although the program's theme is wilderness, students still receive their basic subjects like a regular school, such as reading, math and science. This program has received statewide recognition. The programs students are from on all grade levels (A track, B track, C track, gifted, and learning support). It contains 56 students, and it was one of the first thematic programs ever created. It was based upon the watershed program which is Philadelphia, PA. This programs include 3 overnight trips and many day trips. This programs is based apon a wilderness/environmental education theme. It has been feature on a greenwork episode.
It is taught by a retired Army captain Mr.Greg Ritter and Miss Amanda Burkhart. Teacher Mr. Ritter has won the Walt Disney teacher award, as a nominie for the special education category, and became one of top thirty finalists. The Orignal teachers were Mr. Ritter and Mr. Rotondo (who started the Nature Quest program). The program was made, so teacher Mr. Ritter could let teacher Mr. Rotondo, have some good fashioned fun, in his last years before retirement (thinking it would die out), but the program ever since has stuck.

Is a program for eighth graders, which studies American history, and at the same time thematically puts in character education (morals, and being a good citizen), and community service.

Environmental education program for seventh graders, which is like the Monagaccii program, but not as environmentally themed as extreme, but Nature Quest still incorporates a nature themed classroom.

Another educational themed program with music as an emphasis, for eighth graders only It is taught by teacher Mr. Quilet. It keeps all regular academic calles, but instead of a related arts period (Wood and shop, home ec. ect) students sing songs and/or play insterments. Gym and langange class are still mandatory.

In 1996 a Parent Center was created in the old main office for the already active Parent Association, which is affiliated with and financially support by the Lehigh Valley Council for Children, Adolescents and Family.
