East Norwalk
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
East Norwalk is a neighborhood located in Norwalk, Connecticut. The boundaries of the neighborhood are roughly southern Norwalk east of the Norwalk River, or "the sea to the Green and everything in between".
Present-day East Norwalk is the location of Norwalk's original settlements. The land was purchased from the Norwalke Indians by Roger Ludlow in 1640. At present, the oldest house in the city, the "Thomas Hyatt House" as 12 Willow Street, is located in the neighborhood, dating from 1677. Other historial markers in the neighborhood include the Roger Ludlow Monument, the Founder's Stone Monument (listing the thirty-one first settlers of 1649 and having stood on the location of the first settlement before its slight move) and the General William Tryon Marker, which stands on the approximate location that the British general sat in a rocking chair as he watched his troops burn Norwalk during the Revolutionary War in 1779.
East Norwalk is served by the East Norwalk Metro North station. The neighborhood is the location of Norwalk's city hall, Calf Pasture Beach, and the East Norwalk Historical Cemetery, burial location of Thomas Fitch.
