Easter letter
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In AD 367, Athanasius of Alexandria authored the 39th Festal Letter, or Easter letter. In it, he listed the same 27 books of the New Testament that are in use today. The same letter defines a 22-book Old Testament.
While Athanasius' letter marks the first time the complete canon of the New Testament appears in print, his listing reflects a consensus at which the church arrived much earlier.
