Talk:East Frisia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Would it be acceptable for me to change the notation of "Eastern Frisia" to "East Frisia"? I think that's a sounder translation, and it's also far more common as an English name for the region. Note that I'm not talking about changing the article title from Ostfriesland to East Frisia; that would be a separate issue. -Branddobbe
I'd like to suggest that this article be moved to East Frisia. The Wikipedia standard is to use English names, and I would recommend this especially since the article on Frisia uses the English name, while, other than this article, the term "Friesland" is used to refer to the Dutch and German official districts of that name. I'd move it on my own but I thought it would be good to get discussion first. -Branddobbe
- No one's said anything here, so I'm listing it on Wikipedia:Requested moves. -Branddobbe 22:52, Feb 27, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Move request
This article has been renamed as the result of a move request. Ostfriesland → East Frisia
The general rule is to use the English name, which is East Frisia. Furthermore, most other articles on this subject use "Frisia" or "Frisian" rather than "Friesland", which seems to be reserved for districts and provinces with that as the official name (compare West-Friesland, Nordfriesland with Frisia, Frisian Islands, Frisian language). I brought it up on the article's talk page but there was no reply. -Branddobbe 22:56, Feb 27, 2005 (UTC)
