[edit] Edo language Contest
Edo language has been noted as one of the dying languages of the world. Edofolks.com is determined to make sure that this is not the case. It has not only created an online Edo language dictionary at http://www.edofolks.com/words but it has also started an Edo language contest at http://www.edofolks.com/language to promote the usage of the Edo language among all peoples who might be interested.
Edo langauage was the language of the old Benin Empire that went from some parts of Eastern Nigeria to as far as Ghana, if not further. This will include countries like Togo and Republic of Benin. The Country Benin, formerly known as Dahomey, now gets most of the credits of the Old Benin Empire. Its former name dahomey was named after the Edo general Isidahomi who conquered it. It was just a part of the empire; the center of the empire was actually Benin-City in current day Nigeria. Benin-City, Edo State of Nigeria was the hub and capital of the Benin Empire and not the current day Republic of Benin. The King or Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa, is still in Benin-City till this day. The influence of the city diminished in Feburary 1897 after they lost the final battle to the British.
We must all support the Edo language, the Edo language dictionary, and the Edo language contest.
