Education Ministers of Israel, 1949 to present.
[edit] Name and functions
Please note that the name of the Ministry and with it of the Minister changed several times:
- Education and Culture (1949-1977, 1984-1990, 1992-1993)
- Education, Culture and Sport (1977-1984, 1990-1992, 1993-1999, 2003-2006)
- Education (1999-2003, 2006-)
The major difference was in the years 1999-2003 and again from 2006, when the Ministry was split into the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Culture and Sports. In all other cases, the inclusion or exclusion of Sport was semantic as this function remained in Ministry of Education and Culture. Limor Livnat was in 2003 the first and only minister to sit in office while the name and functions of the ministry were changed, from Ministry of Education to Ministry of Education Culture and Sport.
