Edward II is a film by Derek Jarman based on the play Edward II by Christopher Marlowe.
The plot revolves around Edward II of England's (Steven Waddington) infatuation with Piers Gaveston (Andrew Tiernan), which proves to be the downfall of both of them, thanks to the machinations of Mortimer (Nigel Terry).
The film is staged in a postmodern, deconstructivist style popular in the 1990s and therefore uses contemporary props and clothing instead of accurate historical costumes. The gay content of the play is also brought to the fore by Jarman, notably by adding a homosexual sex scene.
