Edwin H. Colpitts

Edwin H. Colpitts was Western Electric research branch chief in early 1900s. Involved in the development of oscillators and vacuum tube push-pull amplifiers. Well known for his work on the Colpitts oscillator.
Western Electric research laboratories became part of Bell Laboratories in 1925. Colpitts was to become vice-president of Bell Labs before retirement. He worked on US government committees working on sonar in the second world war.
Colpitts died in 1949.
