From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Eliana Tomkins has been writing and making music all her life. Her musical roots are classical, folk and East African. After a long break from performance, in 1995 Eliana re-entered the musical world. She was particularly drawn to the jazz field, began performing and writing again and opened a jazz club. Her style is a mix of jazz, folk and blues with strong melodies and rhythms. Eliana and Carol Ann Duffy began their association by performing poetry and jazz together. The success of their venture led to a songwriting collaboration which has resulted in a suite of songs, with lyrics by Carol Ann Duffy, taken from her book of love poems Rapture.
