Union Pacific began turbocharging EMD GP9 and GP9B locomotives in late 1955. The SD24 was the first EMD locomotive that had an EMD turbocharger in an EMD locomotive. See Don Strack's Utah Rails homepage for more info. ----SSW9389 13:08, 25 November 2005 (UTC)

The EMD SD24 Demonstrators #7200-7202 were painted in a Southern Pacific inspired gray and red paint scheme without lettering in the hopes of landing a sale with that railroad. --SSW9389 13:32, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
