[edit] Biography
[edit] Early years
Born Emily Burns Erwin in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, she was raised in Texas. Encouraged by her parents, she began playing violin at age seven, but as her older sister Martie Erwin excelled at that instrument, Emily switched to teaching herself the more "rebellious" banjo at age 10, with dobro and other similar instruments to follow. From around 1983 on, Emily toured along with her sister in the teenage bluegrass group Blue Night Express. She attended Greenhill School in Addison, Texas.

She and Martie were then part of the formation of the Dixie Chicks in 1989. Originally billed as Emily Erwin, she plays banjo, dobro, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, papoose, accordion, and sitar, and sings background vocals in the group.
Emily wrote the majority of The Dixie Chicks' hit You Were Mine, while her sister Martie wrote the bridge.[citation needed]
[edit] Personal life
Emily was married to country singer Charlie Robison on May 1, 1999, and since then has been billed as Emily Robison. They have three children: Charles Augustus, called "Gus", born November 11, 2002 and twins Julianna Tex (9:19pm ,6 lb 10 oz) and Henry Benjamin (9:29pm, 6 lb 14 oz), born on April 14, 2005.
They reside on a ranch near Bandera, Texas northwest of San Antonio, Texas.
