Emmanuel Gaillard

Emmanuel Gaillard heads the arbitration practice of the international law firm Shearman & Sterling, and is a leading authority on arbitration. He is also a professor of law at the University of Paris, where he teaches international arbitration, and is the Chairman of the International Arbitration Institute (IAI), an organization he helped found to promote international arbitration, sited in France.
In 2005, Gaillard drew the attention of the world's legal community when he began representing the majority shareholders in Yukos Oil Company against the Russian Federation, for upwards of US$33 billion, the largest international arbitration ever.
