Enhancer can mean one of the following:
- In genetics, an Enhancer (genetics) is a short region of DNA that can be bound with proteins, or more specifically, a nucleotide sequence on a DNA molecule that can initiate the transcription of a gene that may be some distance away from the enahancer on the same chromosome. It is activated by DNA binding proteins which bind to the enhancer regions and in turn regulate the binding of RNA polymerase (increasing the activity of the nearest promotor) to the DNA molecule.
