One of two species known as "elephant ear tree" Enterolobium cyclocarpum will grow to become a very large tree. The trunk can grow in excess of 6 feet wide. Several examples of this tree have been found with trunk measurements as large as 8 feet. The typical height of this tree is between 60 and 100 feet tall with a very large spreading crown. The leaves of this tree resemble most closely that of the Tamarind Tree.
Seeds: The seeds for the Enterolobium Cyclocarpum are very easy to grow and will typically germinate in 3-4 weeks, or 1-2 with assistance. To speed up the germination process, place the seeds in boiling water for 5 minutes. This will soften the shell. Plant immediately 1/4" below well drained / sandy soil and water once a day until the sprout has grown to a height of 4"s. Germination can also be hastened by lightly splitting the hard shell of the seed with a small hammer. Take care not to damage the seed inside.
