"Episode 5" is the fifth episode of the first series of television show Skins, focusing on the character Sid Jenkins.

[edit] Plot
Sid daydreams as his parents and teacher discuss Sid's work, interrupted he realizes that he has basically failed the entire year. With only one chance to pass Sid agrees to write an extension paper as his father drags him to his next class; drama. Outside drama Sid is confronted with Anwar and Maxxie who act as his conscience telling him to either attend class or go outside, going with Maxxie's advice he skips class. On the way out he bumps into Cassie who reminds him of their date that night, explaining that he has been grounded Sid cancels but Cassie; upset at the fact he is cancelling the date, insists that she come to visit him.
Outside Tony and Michelle have just met at a park bench where Michelle attempts to decide on an outfit for that weekend. Uninterested, Tony spots Abigail and the two exchange smiles as she walks away, unaware Michelle asks Tony his opinion. Tony says that both she and Sid should come and watch his performance, she agrees and Tony grins as he spots Sid sitting on the grass.
Sid arrives home and tries to start his paper but becomes easily distracted and turns on the TV. To his shock, his father marches in and confiscates his television, stereo and magazines. Sid makes do with the one thing he has left: a picture of Michelle he finds under his pillow. Starting to relieve himself Tony walks in, surprised Tony suggests that he leave and walk back in as if the incident never happened. He does so and finds the picture of Michelle ignoring Sid's relationship with it. Sid is grateful as Tony types the first paragraph of his essay for him and then reminds Sid that must come to the performance with Michelle, Sid is unable to resist and agrees to come.
When Sid and Michelle arrive, accompanied by Chris who "followed the call of choir girls" they find seats and wait for the show to begin. The show begins with all the choir singing and none of the group can see Tony, eventually he appears and sings a duet with Abigail which results in the two becoming extremely close and ends up with the pair kissing onstage, Michelle is horrified.
After the first song Michelle heads back-stage followed by Chris and Sid. Pushing through the group of girls changing they find Abigail's dressing room, intruding they walk in on Tony with his hands up Abigail's unbuttoned shirt. Demanding an explanation Michelle shouts at both Tony and Abigail, they both claim it was all part of the performance. Abigail then suggests that Michelle visits a therapist, Michelle then slaps her and storms out. Tony then tells Sid to go after Michelle and console her, Tony insists that Sid have her claiming she is a gift to him.
On Michelle's walk home she runs into a group of girls who argue with her, Sid turns up and attempts to rescue her but ends up with a black eye. On arriving home his parents meet him at the door, demanding an explanation his father shouts at him. Sid sticks up for himself and his father storms off. Opening the door of his room to reveal Cassie sitting on his bed, he asks her what she is doing there. Reminding him that she had said she would come over he reveals that he was out with Michelle. Cassie shouts at him and squirts him with a water gun as she cries, she then kisses him and tells him that it is his choice, she then leaves.
Sid wakes up the next day to find his Mum at the front door, she offers him lift to school which he accepts. The journey is silent. On arrival at the school Sid's mum attempts to tell Sid something but keeps changing her mind, she gives him her sunglasses to cover his face and she then asks him to try and make peace with his dad, Sid agrees and then walks off.
Due to the fact that everyone has passed their history test they are all excused from class early, all except Sid. Having a discussion with his teacher Sid lays all his cards on the table explaining everything that has happened in the past two days. With only one piece of advice Sid leaves the classroom. He meets Tony at his locker, Tony encourages him to call Michelle and meet her, considering this Sid eventually calls her telling her that he is desperate to talk unaware that his conversation is being eavesdropped by Cassie who shows one single tear and then runs off.
Waiting for Michelle to turn up, Sid sits in a local bar. Eventually Michelle turns up wearing a pair of sunglasses. She reveals that she too has a black eye, Sid explains that he didn't realize what Tony was up to. Michelle admits she forgot Tony and Sid were different people, explaining how she thinks of them as a package she reveals that she thinks Sid is a better person. At hearing this Sid spontaneously admits that he loves Michelle to her face, unfortunately she didn't hear him and asks him to dance.
Cassie is seen filling Sid's water pistol with vodka from a bottle, she then lifts a pill to her mouth and swallows it along with a few squirts from the vodka pistol.
Tony enters the pub to see Sid and Michelle dancing, and casually cuts in, pulling Sid close so that he has to watch him dance with Michelle, before pushing him away again. Sid then watches as Tony and Michelle dance and she falls into his arms once more.
Cassie takes one look at the bag of pills and swallows them all in one go downing them with the vodka-filled water pistol. She then dances on the park bench in a slow waltz as though she is floating.
Sid attempts to set things right and calls Cassie who he finds out is being rushed to hospital. On arrival at the hospital Jal tells Sid that he is not welcome there and he is forced to leave, Jal makes it clear that Cassie's overdose was related to the date that Sid cancelled.
Sid returns home to find his father calm and quiet, he reveals that Sid's mum has left. Sid accuses him of not trying hard enough and demands that he sort his relationship out, shocked, his father obeys his commands. In his room Sid's phone rings, he answers it but does not respond, Tony is on the line telling him to stop being a pussy and that it was all a joke. Hanging up, Sid looks at his essay to discover that Tony's sentence includes the words "control" and "manipulation". Feeling angry Sid works through the night to complete his essay.

- During the scene on the bench, before Michelle joins him, Tony can be seen reading Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Nietzsche. This book contains numerous ideas regarding 'self-cultivation', and the will to power and the Übermensch. These are ideas particularly relevant to Tony and his nihilistic ethics.
- When Tony was attacked and slapped in the face in class, Chris said, "It's like an episode of 'The O.C.' in here!". The O.C. was an American television series set in California.

- When Sid receives news that he's failed more of his coursework, the song playing is "Main Offender" by The Hives
- When Sid is on the phone to Michelle, arranging to meet up with her, the song playing is "Old Fashioned Morphine" by Jolie Holland
- When Michelle and Sid are slow dancing the track playing is "Hell Is Around The Corner" by Tricky vs. Gravediggaz
