Eric Munson (born October 3, 1977 in San Diego, California) is a catcher/first baseman for the Major League Baseball Houston Astros. He was the third overall pick in the 1999 draft, behind Josh Hamilton and Josh Beckett.
[edit] Professional career
Munson's best professional year was in 2003, when he played 99 games off the bench for the Tigers, batting .240. He played mainly third base in the majors prior to joining the Astros, but with them he was converted back to a catcher, the position he played in college. He was Houston's back-up catcher behind Brad Ausmus. On August 20, 2006, Munson was designated for assignment, and he accepted a demotion to the Astros' AAA affiliate, the Round Rock Express. He was recalled to the majors later that season as a September callup.
[edit] College career
He attended the University of Southern California with current teammates Morgan Ensberg and Jason Lane
